Autumnal Impressions

For me, autumn always marks a new beginning. Maybe that's strange, because spring is supposed to be the one making everything all fresh and new. That's certainly true for nature, but for me, it isn't. I started school in autumn, started working in autumn, dyed my hair a different colour, and so on. Even though these kinds of changes aren't always nice and easy, at times it feels good to start something new. For all I know, you have to work to achieve something valuable.

What's autumn to you?

There's no place like London

Close-up on the Big Ben's Clock

Well, I've been to London for the first time in my life. Cautious as I am, I had planned every detail of our four day trip to this amazing city. Despite all that, getting there I've suffered from a sensory overload. I was overwhelmed by the size of this city, by all the crowded places we wanted to visit and last but not least the confusing public transport system. This one nearly knocked me out as it's a lot different from the one I know from Vienna, not even saying that it's ten times bigger. ;)

So we stayed in a beautiful hotel in Croydon, which I think was more of a business hotel, since there was an iron stored in our wardrobe. The way there from the airport was quite a journey. We took a taxi, as we didn't think we'd find our hotel right away. Ever since then we decided that Croydon was the right choice. It's a lot calmer than the city and we got to Victoria by train in about half an hour. From there we could reach some of the top sights on our list by foot, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey. The Tower of London took us literally half a day. There's just so much to see. We got to listen to one of those audio guides, which tell you all about this place's history.

On our third day we visited Kew Gardens, which is a fascinating place. There we spotted a lady, who was followed by all kinds of birds, which apparently live there. Surrounded by them she eventually fed them bread. It was a quite fascinating scene to observe.

Falling for our consumerist society I naturally had to visit Harrod's, Topshop and the Disney Store for some souvenirs. I liked the thought of visiting London, when I was still at home. Being there made me love this place even more and I'm definitely coming back.

Have you ever been to London? Is there something you agree/disagree on?

Loving Watercolour Pencils

You can watch me drawing the blue tit on youtube!

I have always loved using pencils for colouring pictures. They are really easy to handle even though it can be frustrating when you sharpen them and they tend to break... ^^
As a child you usually have the waterproof pencils, which don't react to water at all and so did I. You can alter their intensity by using different levels of pressure. And a skilled person even knows how to mix different colours.

Mixing colours is a lot different with watercolour pencils. They blend so well when they get exposed to water. It's wonderful to watch the colours getting brighter as you move the brush. You could say: "Why aren't you just using watercolours in the first place?" And here is where I point back to the accuracy that pencils can provide. You can place every streak exactly where you want it to be. Of course watercolour paintings can be detailed too. But it's so much easier with watercolour pencils. :)

Have you ever tried using them?
